Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, North Kingstown, RI, has introduced an addition to its Romer Absolute Arm portable coordinate measuring machines. Reportedly the most accurate Romer to date, the 77 series is designed to provide absolute accuracy for high-end 3D measurement applications. The advanced machine achieves nearly a 20-percent improvement in scanning accuracy compared to previous models, and a 15-percent gain in touch-probe measurement accuracy, according to company officials. It comes in five sizes, with measuring range from 2.5 to 4.5 m.
The new arm, like others in the family, can be switched on and used immediately without warmup or referencing. Probe changes can be made without recalibration to maximize flexibility on the job. Acoustic and haptic operator feedback facilitate use in harsh shop-floor environments.
“The 77 series takes the accuracy performance of the Romer Absolute Arm to a new level for dimensional control applications found in safety-critical industries as aerospace, defense, medical and others,” says Zvonimir Kotnik, business unit manager for portable products at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence.
