Fiber Laser Cuts Thin or Thick, and Automates Part Sorting

Bystronic ByStar FiberAt FABTECH 2019, Bystronic Inc. demonstrated its ByStar Fiber 12-kW fiber laser, offering speed and cut-quality capabilities that enable an expanded spectrum of cutting applications from thin sheet to thick plate, according to company officials. The system features the new BySort, which fully automates part sorting. The feature also is available on the new ByTrans Cross modular material handling system. Also featured on the ByStar: the BeamShaper function, which allows for adjustment of the laser beam profile to cut thick steel plate with diverse material characteristics. In steel materials to 1.125 in. thick, the new function raises the quality of the cut surface and increases the cutting speed by 20 percent when cutting with oxygen.
