High-Throughput Cobot Spot Welding Platform

At Automate 2023, held this past May in Detroit, MI, the Universal Robots booth featured what’s reportedly a first: cobot spot welding courtesy of Pro Spot International. Pro Spot has combined its new i5s sophisticated spot welding unit with a Universal Robots cobot in a platform that reportedly delivers two to three times more manufacturing capacity than without the cobot.

Chemcoaters Introduces Corrosion-Inhibiting Coil-Coating for HRPO and CR Steel
Chemcoaters, Gary, IN, a provider of corrosion-inhibiting metal coatings, has developed and launched a thin-film coating for cold-rolled and hot-rolled pickled and oiled (HRPO) steel. This thin-film coating, named FeGuard, reportedly is the first of its kind to offer significant corrosion protection to these substrates. FeGuard, designed for application to master coils on Chemcoaters’ coil-coating line, is aimed at providing alternatives to lower zinc-coating weights.

Motion-Control Technology Supports Automating of Metal Forming Applications
Motion-control technology provider Moog Inc. has partnered with Salvagnini, a provider of equipment for automating metal forming applications, to develop an eight-axis Cartesian manipulator robot for automatically directing and sorting parts produced on punching and shearing machines.  The setup is designed to effectively handle a high variability of batches, as well as small and diversified batches, and meet requirements for short delivery times and customer-quality guarantees. Salvagnini’s eight-axis manipulator fits into an existing floor layout while performing a variety of tasks, all while consuming less energy than competing designs, say company officials.

Produce Hinges Without Two Tool Sets, and Without Welds and Fasteners

The One-Hit-Hinge tool from Mate Precision Technologies improves upon traditional forming of hinges on a punching machine using two tool sets where one tool forms the pre-curl in two hits, and the second tool closes the hinge. This not only requires three total forming strokes, but the machine gap limits hinge diameter.
