Lincoln Electric, Stress Engineering Services to Partner on Large-Format Metal AM

Lincoln Electric and Stress Engineering Services, Inc. (SES) have signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize their collaboration in large-format metal additive manufacturing (AM). The partnership, note officials from both companies, is expected to pay dividends in applications such as energy, power-generation, and oil-and-gas industries as they realize potential benefits of AM for large-scale metal-part fabrication such as shorter lead times, reduced costs, digital inventory, design flexibility and high quality, especially as compared to castings.

Collaboration between Lincoln Electric and SES will help customers accelerate the adoption and qualification of AM parts, with SES assisting on the front end with design and analysis and on the back end with validation testing, leveraging its design and test capabilities for large components. Lincoln Electric’s metal-AM experience and capabilities, as well as its vertical integration and installed capacity, is expected to result in rapid delivery of large-scale metal-AM components.

“SES customers have pain points in sourcing and manufacturing their large metal components that Lincoln Electric Additive Solutions can alleviate,” says Michael Whitehead, senior vice president and president of Global Automation, Cutting & Additive Businesses of Lincoln Electric. “By working with SES, we anticipate driving additive adoption faster by helping customers realize the myriad benefits provided by large-scale metal AM.”
