Fagor Arrasate has been selected to supply equipment for a new aluminum-processing facility being built by Kloeckner Metals in Columbus, MS. As part of the first development phase, the company will supply two finishing lines that will be integrated into the plant's high-automation environment: a slitting line and a cut-to-length (CTL) line. The facility will process as much as 150,000 metric tons of aluminum per yr., including slit coils and sheets, and has been conceived with future expansion phases in mind.

The slitting line will feature robotic tooling changeover and a high-production automatic strapping line, capable of processing aluminum at a maximum speed of 1312 ft./min.  The CTL line includes a rotary shear for cutting trapezoids, and a packaging line.  Both lines will be able to process aluminum 0.0157 to 0.190 in. thick, in strip widths from 18 to 94.5 in.

Both lines also incorporate numerous automation features, including width and thickness gauges, surface-inspection devices, injectors for marking strips and/or parts, PVC and paper-film applicators, automatic package evacuation and weighing, automatic cassette change and coil weighing. They will be dedicated to processing aluminum from the 5000 and 6000 series and, specifically, grade 5182, widely used in automotive and structural applications.
