Jet Edge, Inc., St. Michael, MN, has developed a waterjet-cutting pump for shops that desire the reliability of a hydraulic intensifier pump but have limited power. Dubbed the iP60-30, the 60,000-psi, 30-hp (22 kw) pump draws only 37 full-load amps at 460 VAC (60Hz), or 74 full-load amps at 230 VAC. It can produce 0.6 gal./min. of ultrahigh-pressure water at a continuous operating pressure of 55,000 psi.

Ideal applications, say Jet Edge officials, are rural fabrication shops, research and development labs, schools, and small budget-conscious waterjet-cutting shops.

Like all Jet Edge intensifier pumps, the iP60-30 features a tie-rod design that eliminates threads on the high-pressure cylinders, end caps and hydraulic cylinders. This reduces the likelihood of cracking and increases component life. The pump includes a hydraulic accumulator to provide smooth hydraulic pressure, reduce spikes and prolong hydraulic pump life.
