Sodick's Correction System for 3D Metal Printer Reduces Maintenance, Machining Time

Sodick, Inc., Schaumburg, IL, announced a new in-process correction system for its OPM 3D metal printer. The correction system uses a CCD camera for aligning the OPM’s 500-W fiber laser and 45,000-rpm spindle, automatically correcting their positions and performing realignments according to the maintenance cycle. This reduces maintenance while ensuring greater process accuracy, making it possible to program a smaller offset, ultimately reducing machining time by as much as 25 percent.
