Report Maps Future Trends in Tribology and Lubricants

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), a technical society serving the needs of the tribology and lubrication engineering business sector, has released its 2020 Report on Emerging Issues and Trends in Tribology and Lubrication Engineering. The 70-page report builds on STLE’s multiphase research effort to evaluate current trends, and predicts future developments impacting the field of tribology and lubrication engineering. The report summarizes key findings on trends in transportation, energy, manufacturing and medical/health, while also touching on issues including the workforce, research funding, material costs and availability, safety, the environment and basic human needs, and government regulations. The 2020 Report on Emerging Issues and Trends in Tribology and Lubrication Engineering was in the final phase of preparation when the full extent of the COVID-19 pandemic became apparent. The health crisis has adversely affected the tribology and lubricants business globally, and therefore will also impact the various sectors covered in the report.
