The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Detroit Section and the MIT Enterprise Forum, cosponsors of the annual Vehicle Innovation Competition, presented Engineering Technology Associates (ETA), Inc., Troy, MI, with an Innovation Award for its Accelerated Concept to Product (ACP) process. ETA applied its PreSys finite-element modeling software to develop the ACP process that allows automotive designers to evaluate multiple load conditions simultaneously for hundreds of design concepts, compared to conventional methods that allow designers to evaluate only a few concepts at a time. The award-winning ETA solution promises to reduce product-development costs by 35 to 40 percent, according to ETA officials, and reduce product mass by as much as 20 percent while optimizing performance in the areas of stiffness, noise, vibration and safety.
