Schmalz Inc. has broken ground on the expansion to its headquarters facility in Raleigh, NC. The existing building of the U.S. headquarters was completed in July 2016 and, due to continued, rapid growth, this first significant expansion is being executed ahead of schedule. The new construction will triple the size of the existing facility and is scheduled for completion and move-in by early December. The investments to date in the Raleigh location total more than $14 million and have led to a tripling of the staff; the firm expects to create 62 additional new jobs in the coming years.

Schmalz plans to use the additional floorspace for assembly and testing of its robotic-automation and material-handling products. “This new setup will decisively improve the overall material flow, from parts receipt to manufacturing, testing, packaging and dispatch of our finished robot-gripping tools and manipulator-handling systems,” says John Feutz, VP of strategic operations.
