Are you getting your e-news?
MetalForming magazine publishes a bi-weekly e-mail newsletter for the metalforming industry.
Stay informed of the latest occurrences within our industry, and keep tabs on the near-term plans of MetalForming and the Precision Metalforming Association.
With each issue you’ll find unique articles describing metalforming in action, as well as links to industry articles. We’ll also fill you in on the magazine’s current- and future-issue content.

It’s just that simple.
• When, why and where to use sim- ulation technology
• The importance of verifying sim- ulations and comparing them to real world results
• Why simulations results may be misinterpreted, how doing so can affect the stamping process, and how to avoid this situation
• Why simulations may fail—the dif- ference between garbage-in-garbage- out (GIGO) and garbage-in-gospel-out
• The importance of understanding material properties when performing simulations.
Billur studied at Baskent University in Turkey and Virginia Commonwealth University, received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University, and worked as a researcher at the Center for Precision Forming. His areas of expertise include material characterization, sheet metal forming processes and finite element simulations.
July 27: Optimizing Press- Stroke Rate Without Investing a Lot of Money!
Long-time tooling and stamping professional, and technical director at the Precision Metalforming Associa- tion, Ulintz, who authors MetalForm- ing’s Tooling By Design column, leads the discussion on this topic. He’ll detail ways that metal stampers can leverage opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency without investing a lot
of money in new capital equip- ment. Then, our panel of experts will share their tips. During this session, learn:
• How to better understand, and take advantage of, actual transfer-system and press capac-
ity
• How to optimize your transfer-
system motion curves
• How to optimize progressive-die
performance through coil-line syn- chronization/feed timing, pilot-release timing, etc.
“Metal stamping companies are under constant pressure to increase the output of their stamping process- es,” Ulintz says, commenting why metal formers should tune in to this presentation. “Often, this means increasing a press’ strokes/min. Unfor- tunately for many companies, the anticipated benefit of running higher strokes/min. is not realized because concepts such as press speed relative to stopping times, sensor signal win- dows, pilot-release timing, and the feed or part transferring system are not well understood.”
