SoCAl Fab Shop Powers Up with Solar Panel
Research Tool & Die Works, Carson, CA, a manufacturer of wireways and other hard- ware for marine electrical systems, has installed a 225-kW solar system from SolarCity. The firm expects the system to slice $848 from its monthly electricity bill. SolarCity worked with RT&D to provide its Power Purchase Agreement zero- down financing option for small businesses.
Toyotomi America Adds 400-ton Blanking Line Coe Press Equipment,
Sterling Heights, MI, has shipped and commissioned a completely integrated blanking line to the automo- tive-stamping plant of Toy- otomi America in Spring- field, KY. The line features a 400-ton Aida press with a heavy-duty servo-roll feed, a threading table designed for a 12-ft.-long loop pit, a pre- cision straightener with a 40-hp drive and peeler- threader holddown station for hands-free threading. Also included is a coil reel and coil car. The line can process material to 90-ksi yield strength, to 0.1 in. thick by 48 in. wide, at speeds to 150 ft./min.
Minnesota Fab Shop Adds Servo-Electric Punch-Laser Combo
Quality Tool, Inc., St. Paul, MN, a contract sheet- metal fabricator serving the medical, computer-hard- ware, telecommunications and defense industries, has
installed a new servo-electric turret punch-laser combina- tion machine. The machine, an Amada EMLK3610NT, combines 33-ton punch capacity and a 4000-W laser. It can process 10-ft. sheets without repositioning and deliver 400 hits/min. on 1-in. centers. An auto- mated load/unload unit optimizes machine run time.

Two Formtek companies have launched new websites developed to help metal- forming companies find solutions to their production challenges. Hill Engineering, a manufacturer of high-speed rotary punching machines, has created www.rotarypunch.com, illustrating applications for the rotary-punching process; and Lockformer, a provider of fabrication machinery for the HVAC
industry, has launched www.lockformercustom.com, illustrating how rollforming can outperform other light- gauge metal-fabrication processes, such as press- brake bending and turret- press operations, in some applications.

Autoquip Corp., Guthrie, OK, has acquired American Lifts from the Columbus McKinnon Corp. Autoquip assumes complete warranty and parts support for Ameri- can Lifts products, includ- ing turntables, palletizers, tilt stations, dock lifts and scissor lifts.

Little Rock Tube Company Expands its Footprint
Welspun Tubular LLC, Little Rock, AR, has acquired the 44-acre Little Rock site formerly owned by Wheatland Tube Co. The site features a 350,000- sq.-ft. building that Wel- spun will use to store mate- rial for its spiral weld large-diameter pipe and coating facility.
