To stay competitive in today’s market, the trend is to supply parts with value added features, not just the stamping. Doing as much of this value added work in the first set-up is cost effective, but usually requires more stations in the die, wider tooling and tighter tolerances for features like in-die tapping and component insertions. The only press that has the bed to “fit” this larger “upgraded” tooling would be a straight side. But tying up a larger tonnage press for a lower tonnage application just for the bed size is not cost effective.
To meet to growing demand for lighter tonnage, 2-point straight side presses with larger bed sizes, Komatsu intro- duces the new Model E2W Straight Side press. Komatsu utilizes its weld- ing and frame design technologies to engineer the one piece, solid frame- symmetrical design that provides the rigidity and strength of larger straight sides but at substantial cost savings.
Though the E2W is economical, there is no compromise on performance. The E2W series hosts the standard features of the all Komatsu presses:
plunger guided slide providing a minimum 30% longer die life, full- width side windows, hydraulic overload protcetion, hardened-double reduction helical gearing running submerged in oil
