Fontijne Group Acquires Hess Industries IP
Fontijne Grotnes Group, headquartered in the Nether- lands and with U.S. operations in Chicago, IL, and Niles, MI, has acquired much of the intellectual property of Hess Industries, Inc., including its Formitt Metal Labs division. The newly acquired product portfolio, branded as Fontijne Formitt, Inc., includes catalyt- ic-converter manufacturing equipment (spinning machines, assembly cells and more), systems for demand- flow metal fabrication and assembly, and laboratory and prototype equipment for spin- forming-process develop- ment. Fontijne Formitt, Inc. will operate out of the former Hess facility in Niles, MI.
Amada Acquires Miyachi Corp.
Miyachi Unitek Corp., Monrovia, CA, a manufactur- er of resistance-welding and laser-processing equipment, has been acquired by Amada Co., Ltd., headquartered in Isehara, Kanagawa, Japan. Miyachi becomes a consoli- dated subsidiary of Amada.

FABTECH Tradeshow Expands to India
The Society of Manufac- turing Engineers, Dearborn, MI, on behalf of the five associations that co-sponsor the FABTECH tradeshow, announced plans to launch FABTECH India. The exposi- tion will be co-located with
the Indian Institute of Weld- ing’s Weld India tradeshow, April 10-12, 2014, in New Delhi. FABTECH India will be presented every three years.

Automotive News PACE Award Goes to Schuler
Innovative hydroforming- process development and a global die-standardization model have earned Schuler Inc., Canton, MI, a 2013 Automotive News PACE Award. The technology devel- opment and commercializa- tion is helping Schuler advance the use of high- strength steels in vehicle structures, say company offi- cials. “The global die con- cept is a game changer that drives hydroforming toward a
commodity process,” notes Schuler president and CEO Tim McCaughey.
