Spotlight on PMA
Registration Open for 2011 Fall Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting
Register now for the Precision Metalforming Association’s (PMA) 2011 Fall Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting of Members, November 12-13, at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago, IL. You won’t want to miss this exciting event, which features outstanding assembly sessions, interac- tive executive roundtables and social events to encourage net-
working.
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush will kick off the pro-
gram with a presentation on “Strategies for Economic Growth.” He will discuss how future economic growth requires confronting tough challenges, such as reforming social security; promoting consumer-driven health care; cre- ating stable, cost-effective regulatory rules; and lower- ing tax rates, while eliminating loopholes. Job-creating benefits of international trade must be recognized. And the U.S. education system must be transformed, so oppor- tunities for economic growth are matched by skills of the
next generation.
Former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino,
a frequent Fox News contributor, will follow Governor Bush
and provide a political analysis on the 2012 elections. With the presidential campaigns kicking into high gear, she will offer insight into the candidates and examine their strate-
gies. She also will analyze the campaigns for control of the House and Senate and the current political climate in Washington, including budg-
et and debt negotiations.
Additional assembly session speakers include Jeoff Burris, Advanced Purchasing
Dynamics, who will give a presentation on how to improve results and relationships through better negotiations, and William Strauss, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, who will provide an economic outlook for 2012.
Interactive roundtables are another highlight of this meeting. Featured topics include moving from competitive to collaborative negotiations, a steel and scrap market out- look, leveraging your power in D.C., tax reform, human resource issues, NLRB devel- opments, and OSHA’s focus on lockout, I2P2 and barrier guarding.
The meeting also features the 2011 Awards of Excellence in Metalforming reception and the annual banquet honoring PMA’s 2012 officers.
Register to attend the Fall Leadership Conference & Annual Meeting by October 17 and receive $50 off your registration fee!

NLRB Ruling to Require Employers
to Notify Employees of Right to Join a Union
As expected, on August 26, 2011, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issued its final rule, effective on November 14, to require most private-sector employers to post a notice informing employees of their right to unionize under the National Labor Relations Act. The notice is identical to the one the Department of Labor (DOL) requires government contractors to post pursuant to President Obama’s 2009 Executive Order.
One Voice (the joint lobbying arm of PMA and NTMA) joined with other employer
groups, such as the Coalition for a Dem- ocratic Workplace, in filing comments ear- lier this year opposing the notice and the precedent of permitting the NLRB to impose penalties beyond those provided in the current law. With three Democrats and one Republican on the NLRB, most expected the poster rule to pass, espe- cially with Board Member Craig Becker pushing union priorities (One Voice suc- cessfully fought Becker’s Senate nomi- nation vote, however the former AFL-CIO lawyer received a recess appointment).
A fact sheet with further information about the rule, copies of the notice and information on compliance is available on the NLRB website, www.nlrb.gov/ node/1526.
One Voice will continue to fight against regulations such as this that harm the local community’s employer-employee relationship.
