By adding electronic control, the 6000 series can be programmed through a PLC to provide a high level of control over the amount and timing of lubricant application, permitting more precise application. The injector used in the 6000 series can dis- pense liquid in as little as 20 msec., a nearly instantaneous reaction time that can keep up with rapid and demanding cycle rates. PLC control enables application only when and where needed.
PLC control also allows recipe pro- gramming for flexible, short-run manu- facturing. The technology can be pro- grammed for different tooling, operational speed, part size and alloys in the same machine. That means no more setting and resetting for different parts, or using one generic lubricant setting for all tools and parts, according to company officials, which helps reduce setup times, lubricant consumption and residue.

Follansbee, WV-based NS Wheeling- Nisshin has debuted Zam, a corrosion- resistant hot-dip coated steel-sheet product. Coated with a zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy, Zam provides built-in cut-edge rust protection, and promotes cost savings through less maintenance, according to company officials who note that post-dip batch-coated products are ideal candidates for conversion to the coated sheet. In addition, the company promotes the prod- uct as an excellent substitute for more costly stainless steel and aluminum.
Zam, produced to ASTM A1046/ A1046M Type 1 specifications, reportedly provides a self-healing, ecologically friendly alternative to conventional metal coatings and exhibits exceptional alkaline resist- ance, even in direct contact with concrete and mortar. With a harder and smoother
coating layer than hot-dip zinc-coated steel sheets, according to company officials, it shows excellent press formability and can be welded.
Suitable applications include automo- tive, construction, agricultural, HVAC and more. Five different chromium-free treat- ments are available to suit various appli- cations, with all treatments meeting envi-
ronmental regulations.
Zam can be prepainted or color-coated,
with NS Wheeling-Nisshin working with major paint suppliers and construction associations to gain full acceptance of the newly introduced coating in the United States and Canada.
