Almetals, Inc., Wixom, MI, a specialty-metals slitter and distributor to stampers, rollformers and the like, has installed a solar-panel sys- tem that will supply some 20 percent of its energy requirements. The system comprises 74 Suntech 270-W poly-crystalline solar panels.

Expanding All Over
National metal-service center Olympic Steel, Inc., Cleveland, OH, has announced plans to take on nearly 300,000 sq. ft. of additional warehouse, pro- cessing and office space throughout North America. Included is the purchase of the U.S. Steel site in Gary, IN, (177,000 sq. ft.) to
house a new temper mill and cut-to-length line, to become operational by year-end 2011. The firm also will lease 43,000 sq. ft. of ware- house space in Kansas City, MO; 8000 sq. ft. in Quincy, WA; 57,000 sq. ft. in Min- neapolis, MN; and 15,000 sq. ft. in Monterrey, Mexico.

The line will offer capacity in stainless steel to 0.250 in. thick, and aluminum and car- bon steel to 0.312 in. thick. Included is Red Bud’s heavy- gauge grip-feed system to allow Viking to produce blanks
