Wilson Tool Opens Monterrey Office
Wilson Tool Intl., White Bear Lake, MN, a manufac- turer of tooling for punch presses, press brakes and stamping presses, opened a new office in Monterrey, Mexico, under the direction of Jay Dienst, vice president of sales for North and Latin America.
Washington Fab Shop Welcomes Big-Time Press Brake
K & K Industries, Inc., Bellingham, WA, has acquired a 12-ft. by 230- ton-capacity press brake, a Cincinnati Maxform model equipped with a five-axis backgauge. The brake near- ly quadruples the firm’s capacity compared to its existing 6-ft. by 60-ton press brake, and boasts a 29-in. open height and 22-in. stroke.
Guelph Metalformer/ Fabricator Receives Ontario Development- Program Funding
Melitron Corp., Guelph, Ontario, Canada, a full-serv- ice contract manufacturer of precision metal compo- nents, electronic chassis, enclosures, frames and the like, received a $400,000 grant from the Southern Ontario Development Pro- gram (SODP). The firm expects to use the funds to install new equipment and upgrade its facility by reconfiguring its equipment layout to implement lean- manufacturing principles. It also plans to undertake an
energy-savings initiative to reduce consumption of electricity, natural gas and water. The project is among more than 60 projects fund- ed by the SODP through 2010.
Stimulus Funds Support New, Energy-Efficient Coating Line
American Trim, Lima, OH, plans to install a new protective-film coating line that will use UV light to cure the coatings. The new line will reduce energy con- sumption by 95 percent compared to using thermal- ly cured coatings. American Trim received $994,000 from the State Energy Plan to help fund the installa- tion, which will coat prod- ucts for the alternative- energy, automotive and appliance industries.
Stamper Adds Rapid Prototyping to its Resume
Full-service metal stam- per PTM Corp., Fair Haven, MI, has acquired a rapid- prototype machine for design and development projects. Its new fused-dep- osition-modeling (FDM) unit will allow PTM engineers to explore ways to reduce pro- duction costs without com- promising quality, say com- pany officials.
FDM product models are fabricated from production- grade thermoplastic that can be drilled, tapped, sanded and painted without waiting for curing—ideal for use as prototype parts as well as for molds, patterns and even custom tools and fixtures.
