Metal former McGregor Metal, Springfield, OH, has partnered with Clark State College, also in Springfield, to design a custom welder-training program and offer employees its first Learn to Earn certificates in welding. Commenting on the Learn to Earn model, Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State, says: “Quick path—or non-credit—really is the future. It is the model that will be at every community college and in every regional university in the future.”

McGregor Metal’s program, a four-week 32-hr. curriculum, can train four employees per month.  With the Learn to Earn model, it strives to build a pathway for employees with the aptitude and desire to grow in their careers.  Says CEO Jamie McGregor: “This is impacting McGregor associates right now. It’s accessible to all. If I can give someone the gift of education, then that is theirs forever. They can take that wherever—down the road, up the street—it doesn’t matter to me, but hopefully they say, ‘when I was at McGregor, they gave me this.’”
