Described in this Automotive Manufacturing Solutions article, the MPI concept combines laser-welded blank (LWB) technology (“pushing the limits of manufacturing with the introduction of very large LWBs,” the article says) with its second-generation press-hardened steels.

The firm has identified six BIW modules of a BIW that offer good potential for parts integration, and developed initial concepts for the H-frame (shown here, integrating 11 parts into one), double door ring, dash panel, and rear and front floor.

ArcelorMittal has begun several collaborations automotive OEMs to introduce the MPI concept, most notably in the development of an H-frame prototyped in China by Voyah (the subject of the accompanying video).
