EOS Expands Powder Portfolio With Stainless and Tool Steels, and Nickel Alloy

EOS has introduced metal materials for additive manufacturing (AM) on the EOS M 290 metal-AM machine, including two stainless steels, one tool steel and one nickel alloy.
Created for extreme conditions, EOS StainlessSteel 254, an austenitic stainless steel, offers a 40/60-µm process for the EOS M 290. High chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen alloying provide corrosion resistance in difficult environments, and the material reportedly offers excellent stress corrosion cracking and higher strength than conventional austenitic steel, as well as excellent resistance to uniform, pitting and crevice corrosion. Ideal applications include chlorinated-seawater-handling equipment, pulp- and paper-manufacturing devices, and chemical-handling equipment.
For difficult environments, EOS StainlessSteel SuperDuplex offers a 40/80-µm process for the EOS M 290. This high-strength austenitic-ferritic duplex stainless steel is optimized for additive manufacturing while maintaining super-duplex properties. High chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen alloying provide corrosion resistance in difficult environments, while exhibiting resistance to uniform, pitting and crevice corrosion. Ideal applications include oil and gas, pulp- and paper-manufacturing devices, and mining and offshore equipment.
For use at elevated temperatures, EOS ToolSteel CM55, with a 40/80-µm process for the EOS M 290 system, is a cobalt-free, ultra-high strength and high-hardness steel for tooling and engineering applications. Its alloying elements and moderate carbon content form a strong and stable structure for demanding applications.
