From Dayton Progress, a subsidiary of the Misumi Group, comes DayComp, a new composite material for use in sliding elements in stamping tools. The firm notes that in trials with a Tier One automotive supplier stamping 3-mm-thick high-strength steel, service life of the composite plates outlasted that of traditional bronze sliding plates with solid lubricants by nearly five times. DayComp sliding plates, compared to bronze, reportedly are more heat resistant and ideal for applications exposed to extreme temperatures; eight times lighter to deliver reduced weight, energy needs and CO2 emissions; and create 12 times less friction, improving durability.
