MetalForming magazine and the Precision Metalforming Association are proud to deliver, November 2-3, 2021, the third annual Hot Stamping Experience and Tech Tour, a one-of-a-kind event that provides a unique opportunity to dive deeply into the ever-expanding world of hot stamping. Gaining popularity among automotive OEMs and Tier suppliers, as well as other industries, hot stamping is becoming a go-to process for the production of lighter and safer vehicles, including electric vehicles. In many cases, more than a quarter of a vehicle’s body shell consists of hot-formed steels, so the need for production equipment and training shows no signs of letting up.
LSP MiniCoater is a unique way to roller-apply lubricant to metal coil
stock. You can precisely control application with the LSP Controller or
any existing PLC. Job changes are easy with ability to change or
replace rollers in less than a minute, and multiple roller materials are
available for accurate coverage in any situation. You can coat the
entire stock or partial zone and apply light or heavy viscosity
The Institute for Supply Management’s (ISM) September Manufacturing PMI registered 61.1 percent, an increase of 1.2 percentage points from the August reading of 59.9 percent. This figure indicates expansion in the overall economy for the 16th consecutive month, after contracting in April 2020. The New Orders Index registered 66.7 percent, unchanged from the August reading.
Replace messy mist systems and improve dry machining with clean, cold air! EXAIR’s Cold Gun Aircoolant System improves tolerances, tool life and production rates by cooling with 20°F air. The Cold Gun is ideal for tool sharpening, drill and cutter grinding, milling, band sawing, more.
…promises to open doors to new opportunities for tank-head manufacturer Conrex Steel. Its new 3500-ton hydraulic beast, with 245 in. between posts, hot- and cold-forms steel plate to 6 in. thick. In addition, data collection will help Conrex optimize the press’ overall equipment effectiveness.
Pepperl+Fuchs products to your in-die sensing program helps prevent die
crashes by detecting faults before the die closes. Overall productivity
is increased, as the sensors eliminate time lost due to
maintenance/repairs and bad-part sorting. Designed to withstand the
pressroom environment, they monitor work pieces, holding tools, stripper
plates, pilot holes, and more.
Can’t make it to Detroit for PMA’s 28th annual Automotive Parts Suppliers Conference, October 20-21? Then attend virtually. PMA has added a virtual registration option for APSC. Virtual participants can watch the presentations via live stream and also will receive links to the presentation recordings following the conference.
Cut press feed line setup time in half with COE’s advanced PLC Controls. Loop and press simulations help test, debug, and perform complete startup prior to shipping, ensuring equipment will perform to spec. User-friendly HMI guides operators through setup Dynamic compensation optimizes equipment performance.
A report from Parker Hannifin yields a host of trends in automotive stamping operations, many of them confirming what we’re already seeing. The report, Trends in Industrial Manufacturing Equipment Drive Innovation in Metals, Automotive, and Rubber & Plastics Industries, describes the use of larger presses with new technologies, cobots, material advances, increased acceptance of Industry 4.0 and more.

2021, we are looking for women in leadership positions or on the shop
floor, those who represent dedication to their company and the industry,
and demonstrate excellence in meeting their workplace responsibilities.
Therefore, MetalForming magazine, in conjunction with the Women
in Manufacturing Association, is seeking nominations for its 6th Annual
Women of Excellence in Metal Forming and Fabricating Awards, to run as a
special section in the December 2021 issue. We need nominations to us
by October 20. The section will feature and honor those selected as a
means to recognize and promote the importance of women in the metal
forming and fabricating industries.
SmartFlow’s® Press Control Interface option allows operators to switch between lubrication presets (Jobs), acknowledge alarms, and change fluid levels – directly from the press controls. SmartFlow’s access code feature prevents tampering and maintains lubrication consistency. Pair SmartFlow® with a Uni-Roller® stock lubricator for smooth and consistent stock lubrication, significant fluid savings, and cleaner press areas.

Improving Progressive-Die Performance—Part 1
A progressive die performs a series of fundamental sheet metal
operations in two or more die stations with each press stroke. These
simultaneous operations produce parts from a strip that moves
a predetermined distance in the die at a precise time during each press
stroke through use of an automated feed system. Improving
progressive-die performance begins with quick coil changes and the
ability to feed the strip smoothly through all of the die stations.
