Toyota came to the United States in 1957 with the formation of Toyota Motor Sales USA. It launched U.S. production in 1986, we learn from this 10-min. video, when it began to produce the Corolla in a joint venture with General Motors. The video takes us on a tour of eight U.S. Toyota facilities, including the first and largest: Georgetown, KY. With 9 million sq. ft. under roof, the plant builds 550,000 vehicles annually, and another 600,000 engines/yr.  Cameras take us up close to the plant’s tandem-press stamping operations. Toyota Indiana (Princeton) is next on the tour, a recently renovated 4.5-million sq.-ft. facility, where we get an up-close look at robotic laser-welding operations.  Then we travel south to Toyota Mississippi (Blue Springs) for a look at Corolla production, and the facility’s state-of-the-art paint shop.
