Metal Stamper Secures Its Future Through Climate Action
October 8, 2024Comments
Metal former Kenmode Tool and Engineering, Algonquin, IL, has seen a notable increase in requests from its customers for climate data, and knew it was time to act. Recognizing the importance of its impact on the environment, the firm has set a target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. It’s already started making strides to reduce its carbon footprint by using more recycled materials, installing energy-efficient lighting and increasing its use of green energy.
Net-zero emissions involves balancing the amount of GHG emissions produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. This is done by combining operational emissions reductions from initiatives like reducing energy consumption, and through efforts to remove carbon, such as planting trees and carbon capture. In addition to implementing these initiatives, Kenmode sought to begin tracking its carbon emissions—calculating emissions from its use of natural gas, propane, refrigerants and electricity, all the way back to 2020. For help, it implemented the climate-action software platform from Carbonhound, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a platform specifically designed to help companies measure and reduce their impact on the climate. Carbonhound software provides combined certified calculation methods with automated data collection for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Now that Kenmode has automated its climate reporting, it has begun to investigate additional emissions categories—to understand its complete footprint—by engaging with its employees, to calculate employee-commute emissions. As the firm continues to work towards its net-zero by 2040 goal and implement environmental initiatives, it more readily can track progress and establish themselves as a top choice for customers looking to minimize their environmental footprint.
