Automated Finishing Cell for High-Mix Applications

Cohesive-Robotics-Smart-Finishing-Robotic-Finishing-Cell-Universal-Robots-cobot-FABTECH-2024Cohesive Robotics highlighted its Smart Finishing robotic workcell, designed for automated surface finishing tasks in high-mix manufacturing operations. The cobot-led cell is powered by Cohesive Robotics’ Argus OS software, which reportedly leverages artificial intelligence (AI), 3D vision and advanced controls to provide common material removal, surface finishing and surface-treatment processes on any part of any quantity. Supported processes include sanding, polishing, graining/directional finishing, grinding, buffing, spraying, blasting and more.

As explained to MetalForming at FABTECH, the software’s AI capability allows for learning optimal finishing paths and forces, and the cell can notify personnel when finishing attachments must be changed out, or an automated end-of-arm-tool-changing option can do that automatically.
