Gabriela Aguilera
Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Diseño de Producto más Ingeniería de Manufactura, Apodaca, Nuevo León, Mexico
With decades of experience in the tooling industry and as the director of a company she founded 12 yr. ago, Diseño de Producto más Ingeniería de Manufactura (DMASI) from the ground up in an industry often seen as exclusive to men, Gabriela feels an immense sense of pride and accomplishment in her journey. That journey led from working as a product and mold designer to becoming the CEO of one of the top companies in her region. Gabriela’s deep technical knowledge, combined with her leadership skills, enables her to lead with authority and confidence in a sector that demands precision, innovation and strategic planning.
As the director DMASI, Gabriela not only oversees daily operations but also strategically positions the business to remain competitive and forward-thinking. She has leveraged her expertise in industrial design, CNC machining and tool manufacturing to provide her clients with top-tier solutions.
Gabriela has contributed significantly to advancing technology in the sector, pushing boundaries in design and production methods. Her company offers a wide range of services, from design to manufacturing, which sets her apart from competitors who may only specialize in one area.
Gabriela is passionate about elevating the tooling industry, advocating for it to be seen as a cornerstone of manufacturing and industrial development. She understands that the health of the tooling sector directly impacts broader industrial growth, which is vital to the region’s economic future.
Additionally, her involvement in civil associations, such as “10,000 Women United for Mexico,” further underscores her commitment to empowering women in business. She believes that the success of the tooling industry isn’t just about better machines or processes but also about fostering a more inclusive environment where women can thrive. This is reflected in her work as a mentor in programs such as Mujer Fusión, where she helps women gain the skills and confidence needed to succeed in manufacturing.
Gabriela’s influence also stretches into public speaking and advisory roles, where she shares her knowledge and experiences with others.
In addition to Gabriela’s professional accomplishments, her recognition through awards such as the Civic Merit Medal of N.L. in the Business Category for Inspirational Successful Women and the Entrepreneurial Merit Medal Lorenzo H. Zambrano Treviño reflects her widespread impact. And, she has also demonstrated how leadership extends beyond the boardroom. Her participation in competitive open-water swimming speaks to her dedication to personal growth and discipline. Competing in marathons such as the Reef Route and the Bacalar Marathon, and setting goals such as completing the Cancún-Isla Mujeres Crossing, demonstrates that her drive for excellence transcends both her professional and personal life.
“Leading a company in an industry dominated by men requires resilience and a constant push against gender biases,” her nominator offers. “She has faced situations where her competence was questioned simply because of her gender, but each time she proved herself through results, determination and a deep understanding of her craft.
“Ultimately, Gabriela’s leadership in the metal forming and fabricating industries isn’t just about her own success; it’s about paving the way for others,” her nominator concludes.
“Manufacturing offers rewarding challenges and financial benefits. Women pursuing this path not only find fulfillment but also help to close the gender pay gap. Founding my company allowed me to create impact and serve as a role model. With creativity, skill and determination, we can overcome cultural barriers and access the opportunities in this field.”

Executive Vice President, Woven Metal Products,
Alvin, TX
Heather leads strategy and growth for Woven Metal Products (WMP) a state-of-the-art fabrication facility and solutions provider located outside of Houston, TX. Heather’s unique marketing perspective, problem-solving acumen and strategic leadership have helped WMP grow from a parts provider to a solutions partner for the customers it serves. In the last 5 yr., WMP has seen tremendous growth under Heather’s strategy, with a double-digit-percentage increase in gross revenue. Her leadership was a key contributor to the company’s 39% gross-revenue growth between 2019-2022.
In her 13-plus yr. with WMP, Heather has not only focused on business development for the company but also has evolved her role from a starting position as sales manager to her current position as executive vice president. She works with the CEO to oversee plans, development and overall long-term success. In the last decade she formalized the company’s marketing and business development in an industry that typically uses word of mouth vs. proactive efforts. She also advised company leadership on efficiency measures to improve shop-floor procedures, as well as formalized the company’s review process for all employees—from skilled laborers to the executive team. Heather also developed WMP’s vision, mission and objectives. Most importantly, 2023 marked the second year of the robust review program that Heather helped develop, which shaped team member growth, giving associates key feedback on performance and steps they can take to further advance within the organization.
In short, Heather has modernized WMP’s approach to business growth during her tenure and established herself as an indispensable executive for the company. Her understanding of specialty metal fabrication for a number of industries has strengthened WMP’s approach to serving its customers.
Heather is a member of Women in Manufacturing, where she regularly connects and shares best practices with other women in the industry, and also is active with the National Association of Manufacturers. In 2022, Heather was named a Women MAKE America Awards honoree, which recognizes women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers in the manufacturing industry. She has recruited women business partners with expertise in content creation, graphic design, public relations and paid media and from promotional companies to join her efforts in marketing and communications for WMP, introducing a new generation of female professionals to this niche industry.
Under Heather’s marketing leadership, WMP received two prestigious regional business awards in 2023: the Houston Business Journal’s 2023 Family Business of the Year and the 2023 Texas Family Business of the Year by the Baylor Impact Awards Program.
When it comes to shaping the next generation of the metalworking and fabricating industries, Heather shaped and launched WMP’s community-engagement program, Woven Together, in 2022. Woven Together aims to grow the future workforce for manufacturing and metalworking skilled labor opportunities by spotlighting the benefits of a trade skills career.
Apart from WMP’s community efforts, Heather has been a community champion her entire career. She sits on multiple boards in Dallas, TX, that help women, children, people experiencing homelessness and others in need. For example, for more than 7 yr., Heather has served on the board for Our Friends Place, a local Dallas nonprofit that helps young women break generational cycles of abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness. She was president of the board for a year.
“There are plenty of opportunities for women in manufacturing, just like in any other industry. Although it may not be a common path for women, that doesn’t mean there aren’t chances for growth, trajectory and success. It’s more than just shop or warehouse work; manufacturing also requires expertise in process control, optimization, workflow improvement, hiring, training, marketing, strategy and more—similar to other industries.”

Partner, Wipfli LLP, Southfield, MI
A 35-yr. industry veteran, Laurie co-founded Harbour Results Inc. (HRI) in 2009 to assist in the competitiveness of small to medium-sized manufacturers, She was instrumental in the firm’s growth, in personnel and revenue—everything from developing new products to helping manufacturers improve business and creating annual industry-benchmarking studies for automotive and manufacturing that collect and analyze critical data that aid in developing future strategies.

Stephanie Patton
Account Manager, Ability Metal Co., Elk Grove Village, IL
Stephanie began at Ability Metal Co. 15 yr. ago performing miscellaneous office work. She would ask if there was any way that she could work more hours, and the reply was always the same: “The only extra hours we have is working in the shop.” After hearing that numerous times, she replied, “Okay, I can do that.”
She began operating a drill-and-tap machine for a few days per week without any issues, and Stephanie was on her way. Whenever there was work to be done, she was always willing to pitch in, and over the years she has moved from order entry to customer-service manager. Along the way she has led the implementation of a new enterprise-resource-planning system as well as quality-management-system software. Manufacturing is a multi-cultural and multi-generational work environment. As she leads our twice-daily production meetings, Stephanie is capable of navigating those differences to create a cohesive group striving toward a common goal. Additionally, she doesn’t shirk away from difficult conversations. Customer complaints, issues with vendors or an employee that needs to get with the program, she is not one to avoid the task.

Mix those traits with some compassion and that describes Stephanie. She is a role model not only for other women in manufacturing but for men as well.”
“While I did not initially set out for a career in manufacturing, it certainly has been an incredible journey, and I’m very thankful for everything that I have learned along the way. Chief Executive Officer, Phillips Tube Group, Inc., Middletown, OH
Angela is CEO of Phillips Tube Group (PTG), Inc., a woman-owned manufacturer of welded-steel tubing for a variety of industries including automotive, HVAC, appliance, construction, logistics and recreational-vehicle. The daughter of company founder Ralph H. Phillips and with 30 yr. of operational and strategic business experience, Angela literally grew up in the business. Angela showed true grit when, in 2009, her father died unexpectedly, and she quickly was catapulted to CEO.
Under her leadership, the PTG team navigated the difficult 2009 financial crisis, which caused a 40% loss in revenue. 2010 was a record year for the company. With growth and possibility in its sights, the PTG team pushed forward without their founder and never looked back.
Angela led the organization through two acquisitions, in 2016 and 2017. During the pandemic, she and her team worked not only to keep customers with product while others couldn’t, but also expanded the company by opening a new operation in Richmond, IN.
The recipient of numerous professional awards, Angela also has counseled legislators and other government officials on the benefits of manufacturing and manufacturers’ needs. Her focus remains on educating and supporting those who impact business growth and the development of PTG’s local economy.

“I recommend the manufacturing industry because of its dynamic opportunities for women. If you are willing to invest in yourself, to learn and grow while in a manufacturing career, you will have the satisfaction of seeing the fruits of your labor physically in a product that grows and is versatile. Women offer their unique talents with higher levels of detail and communication skills than many of their male counterparts. Companies that develop both men and women within their organizations are future- and growth-minded, and poised for long-term success.”

She knows all the machines as well as the employees, and as she always says, ‘I won’t ever ask someone to do something that I wouldn’t do myself.’ Brenda hops in on line when the schedule may fall behind, and will run a laser or whatever else is needed. She sets the work-ethic example for all of us.”

Cinthya Yerena Valenciano
Chief Operating Officer, Yerena Iron Works, General Escobedo, Nuevo León, Mexico
From an early age, Cinthya has been deeply immersed in the world of metallurgy, thanks to the influence and vision of her father, who founded Yerena Iron Works more than 20 yr. ago. Growing up in such a dynamic and challenging environment not only allowed Cinthya to become familiar with the intricacies of the business, but also awakened in her an unwavering passion for the metals industry. Since her early years, she has witnessed the hard work and dedication involved with production and management in such a competitive industry. For years, Yerena Iron Works has produced and perfected black-steel units; however, without neglecting this market she has redirected her focus to other types of needs.
After raising the quality of parts in this type of steel and aware of the need for preparation and updating in a constantly evolving sector, Cinthya has demonstrated exceptional commitment by training in key areas. This year, in response to market trends toward thermal profiles, she was invited to participate in a specialized course on thermal profiles and their manufacturing process.
This course, taking place in Switzerland, provided Cinthya with an in-depth knowledge of these profile types, and allowed her to establish valuable contacts with key experts and professionals in this field. Cinthya’s effort and dedication have allowed her to integrate this experience into Yerena Iron Works’ growth strategy, with the goal of positioning the company as one of the leading producers in Mexico of units composed of Swiss profiles.
Under Cinthya’s leadership, Yerena Iron Works has achieved new levels of production excellence and has implemented practices that reflect its commitment to quality, sustainability and technological advancement. Her leadership has been instrumental in the company’s adaptation to market changes and in the continuous improvement of its processes.
“Cinthya is a true example of leadership and passion for the metallurgical industry,” her nominator offers. “Yerena Iron Works has been her second home since she was very young, and she works with dedication and love in this great family project. As COO, Cinthya has developed an advanced technical knowledge in the manufacturing of high-end metallic structures, and has an outstanding capacity for analysis, learning and great creativity that allows her to face industry challenges. She is an inspiration to those around her, as she allows us to see how a woman is able to enter and lead with determination in an environment in which the participation of women is uncommon.
“Cinthya has opened a door for women who have thought about having the opportunity to work in this field,” her nominator concludes. “In manufacturing, women may think that they will be limited to performing certain functions focused on the administrative, but with Cinthya at her side and as an inspiration, a woman can learn, know and do as much as her potential allows.”
“For a woman, the career in the metals industry is a path full of creativity, challenges and teamwork. Beyond steel-structures manufacturing there is much more—we build a fundamental part of a family’s dream house. It’s a process that fills me with excitement and makes me feel a lot of satisfaction when viewing each installed project. From my experience I believe faithfully that in this guild are multiple tasks enhanced with the contribution of women.”
