Here’s a look behind the scenes at the BMW Mini production plant in Oxford, UK, which BMW says is 2.5-times the size of London’s Westminster Abbey. This lengthy and complete video tour of the plant, which produces some 1000 cars/day, begins with a look at simultaneous die changes (via rolling bolsters) along a huge tandem press line, and includes up-close looks at the crossbar-transfer setups.  Also included: a look at robotic assembly and spot welding, and the use of AGVs for drivetrain installation.  BMW calls the plant its “laboratory of the future,” noting that it takes only around 22 hr. to complete a vehicle from the delivery of its component materials.
