Materials Deposition Center Slated for Lima, OH
August 1, 2008Comments American Trim’s Research and Development facility in Lima, OH, soon will become neighbors with the new Materials Deposition Center (MDC), which recently was awarded a $3 million grant from Ohio’s Third Frontier Wright Projects program. The MDC, to be constructed adjacent to the American Trim R&D facility, will commercialize advanced functional and decorative thin-film coating processes.
Collaborative partners for the project include American Trim, Rhodes State College, Ohio Northern University, The Edison Materials Technology Center, The Ohio Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Center, and the city of Lima, OH.
The MDC’s inaugural project: development and demonstration of a low-cost engineered finish that simulates decorative stainless-steel sheet material, for use on refrigerators, ovens and other appliances. MDC projects will seek to exploit digital printing and new deposition processes to produce engineered finishes without the use of expensive alloys or environmentally hazardous coating processes.
