Elevating Tube Fabrication and Press-Brake Production at LG Cloutier

Quebec-based contract manufacturer LG Cloutier takes its metal-fabrication business to new levels of throughput and productivity, on the shoulders of a vast array of new tube-cutting and -forming technology housed in a new 100,000+-sq.-ft. manufacturing plant.
The fabrication push took off early in 2022 when the firm brought in a robotic 3D laser cutting system from BLM Group, “which we immediately tasked with cutting holes in sections—closed tubes as well as open shapes,” Grenier says. The work was for a new and big customer, Lion Electric Co., fabricating electric-bus frames. Prior to adding the five-axis machine to its lineup, complex extrusions requiring holes—drilled and machined—took 30 to 35 min. to complete.
“All of the new technology recently installed at LG Cloutier has allowed our business to grow, and provide more products to our customers,” Grenier says. “Yes, we always strive to improve productivity and throughput, but I’ve also always sought to become a full-service provider to our customers, a ‘one-stop shop.’ And, we seek to grow on the difficult work: When our competitors begin to say ‘no,’ we want to say ‘yes.’”
